A free-form, spiraling, red stoneware platter with a lava red-orange glaze.
This is a twice-thrown platter. It was thrown on the wheel then stretched out from the original round shape by throwing it at an angle onto a plaster slab over and over until it was stretched into the desired shape. It was then placed on cotton stretching fabric in a quilting frame to give it a bowl shape. Most of the platter is the natural burnt orange of the raw clay. The center is glazed with a red-orange glaze that has incredible depth and mottling.
Makes a great centerpiece, fruit platter, serving dish, decorative pottery....
