A wheel-thrown, terracotta, hanging planter made of locally dug clay that when fired to the right temperature comes out a nice terracotta color and is porous. This unglazed clay allows air and water to flow through the pot which prevents root rot and soil disease.
It is fired high enough to be much stronger and more durable than mass produced terracotta pots. (Which are often not real terracotta.) It has a small drainage hole and a cork that lets you control drainage. It also comes with a crock to keep the soil from falling out or the hole becoming clogged when the cork is not being used.
Lizella Clay is known to potters all over the US and Canada as a great terracotta. It is dug from the banks of Echeconnee Creek, a few miles from my studio. All natural, nothing added.
4 1/2 inches high, 7 3/4 at rim, 4 1/4 deep. It hangs about 20 inches.
The last photo shows another hanging planter with a fern in it to illustrate how the warm clay color complements the green foliage.
