PORCELAIN & STONEWARE CUP

Sorry, this item has sold.

Wood fired stoneware and porcelain cup or dessert dish.

This cup is made of a translucent porcelain clay and a stoneware clay made to take heat of cone 13 (2450 F.) wood firing. Both parts were thrown on the wheel and are slightly off center. After the bisque firing the porcelain part was glazed with a food safe clear glaze and fixed into the stoneware holder. During the wood firing the two parts were "welded" together by the clear glaze and the natural glaze from the wood ash.

It was fired in an anagama (Japanese for "cave kiln") stoked with wood every few minutes non-stop for five days. It was colored by flames and glazed by the ash in the fire.

About 4 1/2 inches high and about 5 1/4 inches wide. Holds about 1 cup.

Food-safe. Okay in microwave and dishwasher.
