This small, wood fired flower pot with saucer was wheel thrown and is one of a kind. It was colored by flames and glazed by the wood ash in the fire.
It was fired in an anagama (Japanese for "cave kiln") stoked with wood through the front fire box and the five side ports every few minutes for five days non-stop. This long, labor-intensive firing gives the flames time to develop the incomparable colors and glaze of a long wood firing. The glazing and color flashing depends on how the flames and ash hit the pot so some parts will have have a shiny, slightly iridescent glaze ("juicy") and other parts will have little or no glaze ("dry") but will have more color variation and will feel satiny to slightly rough instead of glossy.
3 1/2 inches high and 3 1/4 wide. Okay indoors or outdoors.
