This terra cotta planter was made of wheel-thrown, locally dug clay that when fired to the right temperature comes out a nice terracotta color and is porous. This allows air and water to flow through the pot which prevents root rot and soil disease.
It is fired high enough to be much stronger and more durable than most terracotta pots. (Many of which aren't real terracotta.) It has a small hole for drainage and a small shard to keep the soil from falling out or the hole becoming clogged. This one does not come with a saucer.
Lizella Clay is known to potters all over the US and Canada as the best-looking and strongest terracotta available. It is dug from the banks of Echeconnee Creek, a few miles from my studio.
It does not come with the macrame used in the last picture to show that these planters also work well as hanging planters.
4 1/2 inches high. Inside diameter at lip is 6. Outside middle is about 8 inches.
Everything in this shop is handmade and one of a kind.
