This small, free-form, terracotta planter was centered on the wheel then knocked off center to make it asymmetrical, to get a lip that is thick on one side and thin on the other, to get a nice, gestural spiraling movement.
It was made of locally dug clay that when fired to the right temperature comes out a nice terracotta color and is porous. This allows air and water to flow through the pot which prevents root rot and soil disease.
It is fired high enough to be much stronger and more durable than mass produced terracotta pots. (Which are usually not real terracotta.) It has a small hole for drainage and a shallow saucer that has been treated with a sealant to keep it from leaking. Okay indoors or outdoors.
2 3/4 inches high at highest point, 4 3/4 at two widest points and 2 1/4 deep.
Everything in this shop is handmade and one of a kind.
