APOTHECARY JAR

Sorry, this item has sold.

Even though this is one of the best of the bunch it is a "second" on sale for less than half-price because of the rough spots near the bottom that had to be ground off.

A small, round, wood fired jar with a natural bark cork.

This stoneware jar was colored by flames and glazed by the ash in the fire. It was fired in an anagama (Japanese for "cave kiln") stoked with wood every few minutes non-stop for five days.

The pictures can't do justice to the variation and hint of iridescence in the glaze or where the flames wrapped around the pot to color the clay, and you have to hold it to feel the juxtaposition of the glossy glaze and the satiny matte clay. This one got enough glaze from the ash to make the iridescence more noticeable and produce an orange-peel texture and a few small rough spots near the bottom that had to be ground off.

Some of these little jars were used in an episode of CBS's "Elementary".

About 3 inches high (without the cork) and about 3 1/2 inches wide.

Food-safe. Okay in microwave and dishwasher.

If you buy more than one item the shipping may be more than it should be. If it is I will combine the shipping and refund the overcharge. If you want an estimate of the actual shipping before buying contact me, but it also probably made it the best of the bunch.
